About the books

Having lived in Scotland for almost 50 years, apart from a three-year stint in California, the Scottish Highlands and Islands provided a readily accessible backdrop for my novels.

I’m not at the leading edge of climbing but I have been involved in an avalanche, found myself within an inch of falling to certain death on ice climbs, and I’ve been in whiteouts staring over cornices. They’re sobering experiences and I’ve drawn upon them countless times when faced with difficulties, as well as when telling these stories.

Do the heroines and heroes find true love – that one person who will be a lifelong soulmate? You already know the answer to that question – read the books. But each story has twists and turns, much like our own lives and in that vein, you often have to wait until the very end to find out a person’s destiny.

Of course, the characters in the novels are larger than life; it wouldn’t be an escape if they weren’t. But at the end of each book, you’ll find a short section of background and details of what inspired me to write that particular story. It tells you something about my life and the subject matter.

And yes, Eddie Campbell is an extension of me and what I could be with an alter ego. It’s a relatively common name and there is a real-life Eddie Campbell known to me. We met a long time ago in a hill race and he died too young, twenty years ago. A tribute is given to him at the end of For the Love of Eilidh.
